TAMPA - It took 15 months for the Tampa Bay Convention & Visitors Bureau to devise a new brand in 2007, resulting in the renaming of the Hillsborough County visitors group to "Tampa Bay & Company."

Chances are it won't take that long for the group's new leadership to rebrand again, with a name that more clearly signals its mission.

Kelly Miller, Tampa Bay & Company chief executive and president, began work Jan. 3 and said Wednesday that the work will require a comprehensive effort with widespread input. A new name, maybe matching its Web address, will be just one element.

"The new name probably will be something like Visit Tampa Bay, which is our URL," Miller said.

That's more in line with trends for visitors bureau names, although some organizations retain the more officious label. They include NYC & Company, the official marketing and tourism organization for the city of New York.

Miller came to Tampa after heading the Ashville, N.C., Convention & Visitors Bureau. He led international and Olympics Games marketing for the Atlanta Convention & Visitors Bureau.

Boosting economic development will be a primary goal for the local agency that is supported by bed tax revenue and membership fees.
