Reading Lauren Shiner's Letter of the Day ("Senators for life?" Views, Feb. 21), I was reminded of a line near the end of "National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation." After reporting the abduction of her husband, the wife of the CEO of Clark Griswold's company discovers that her husband replaced all the employees' Christmas bonuses with a year's subscription to a "Jelly of the Month" club. Turning to her husband, she addresses him in disgust, saying, "Well, of all the cheap, lousy ways to save a buck!"
