Polk high school student collapses after smoking synthetic pot

A 16-year-old Lake Gibson High School student was taken to a hospital Friday after smoking synthetic marijuana on campus, Polk County Sheriff's Office deputies said.

The girl, whose name was not released because of her age, had collapsed and was incoherent after smoking K-2, according to a report. She was taken to Lakeland Regional Medical Center, where she was treated and released.

Detectives say they the K-2 was purchased at a Hillsborough County store by Lake Gibson student Andrew L. Ishman, 18, 1544 Yeomans Path. He in turn sold the drug to a 15-year-old fellow student, according to the report.

The 15-year-old, whose name also was not released because of his age, met with four others students in the school parking lot, and they smoked the K-2 in the car of Dmitria A. Grasso-Morey, 18, the sheriff's office said. Afterward, they walked to the school building, where the girl collapsed, the report said.

Ishman was charged with sale of a counterfeit controlled substance and contributing to the delinquency of a minor. Grasso-Morey was charged with contributing to the delinquency of a minor and possession of drug paraphernalia.

The 15-year old male who bought the K-2 was charged with possession/sharing a counterfeit controlled substance.

A 14-year-old male in the car was charged with manufacturing drug paraphernalia and was taken to the Juvenile Assessment Center. The other three students, two 15-year-old males and the 16-year-old who became ill, were charged with possession of drug paraphernalia.

Polk deputies notified Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office about the K-2 being sold at the Mobil store, 501 North County Line Road, Plant City. The acting manager at the store told Polk and Hillsborough detectives he would no longer sell K-2, the sheriff's office said.
