Man charged in shooting of 6-year-old in North Port

A 23-year-old man has been arrested after a 6-year-old boy was shot Saturday.
According to the North Port Police Department, the boy was shot while inside a home in the 2600 block of Yamada Lane. He was taken to All Children's Hospital in St. Petersburg with non-life-threatening injuries. He is in stable condition.
Chad Cousar was charged Saturday with child neglect involving serious bodily injury and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. Cousar has three previous drug convictions in Charlotte County, according to the Florida Department of Corrections.
He is being held without bond at the Sarasota County Jail.
Police continue to investigate.
