Bicyclist crossing U.S. 301 fatally struck by pickup

TAMPA - A 22-year-old Plant City man riding his bike across U.S. 301 was struck and killed by a pickup early today near Brandon, the Florida Highway Patrol reported.
Anthony Paul Penta died at the scene.
Penta was crossing U.S. 301, just north of State Road 60, at 6:40 a.m. and rolled into the path of a northbound Ford Ranger driven by Xavier Hernandez Jr., 38, of Ruskin, troopers said.
The Ranger's right front struck the left side of the bike, and Penta was ejected onto the windshield of the pickup, troopers said.
Hernandez was not injured.
The incident remains under investigation.
