Regarding "Conservative flapdoodle" (Your Views, Dec. 3): In an otherwise textbook example of left-wing talking points (Republicans are vile; Democrats are the champions of equality and justice, etc), Robert Trout of Riverview made an analogy that struck me in his defense of Obamacare. He writes, "...one group of people, let's call them Republicans, is fully committed to standing atop the Overpass of History and chucking cinder blocks into traffic."
There truly is nothing new under the sun. The left always is filled with utopian visions of the perfectible society – if only we simple obstructionists get out of the way and allow the experts to tell us what light bulbs we must buy and what insurance we must purchase or face the full penalty of law. It's all for our own good, don't you know?
This way lies tyranny. First they come with a smile insisting that they are from the government and are here to help us. From here government metastasizes into all areas of life, from the food you are allowed to eat to the cars you will be allowed to drive.
Where exactly is this overpass, and where do I get my cinder block?
